What is Art Yarn?

To me, Art Yarn is a personal response to fibre and colour which reflects the skill of the spinner; the spinners' skill includes long draw, worsted draw, core spinning and boucle and various plying techniques.
Here  are some of the commercial yarns we used for the Art Yarn course at Knuston Hall.
We dyed small quantities of fibre in the microwave; angora, Wensleydale locks and fibre mixes such as merino and bamboo which take the dye differently with unique results. We also used prepared bags of mixed fibres and mixed colours to make getting  started easier
